@sonja @keira @Jennifer Scheuerell Below is the approval we received from Amy regarding banner number two. I would recommend we make the banner #2 go live on 10/18. That is roughly 2 weeks prior to cutover as planned, but open to suggestions about when to post.

Email sent by CEDARS will need to be updated to the same domain at the same time.

List of tasks that will need to be cared for by the development team:

    • Add a banner to the CEDARS site that communicates the cutover to a new url for the CEDARS site on November 4, 2024.

    • Enable an auto-forward from the old domain to the new domain for 60 days post cutover

@Sonja For this request, I have emailed Amy to edit or approve copy for the banner that I have suggested. Once I get the final copy, I will post that here within this ticket.

@Sonja Follow up to the banner request. Amy provided the copy for the banner:

“Please Note: CEDARS is moving to the CPUC domain in November 2024”

A few questions regarding the banner.

    1. What color for the banner? Sticking with convention it would be orange.

      1. We typically use green when something worked, red when something didn’t work, and orange for information.

      2. See attached screen grab for informational banner example.

    2. What page(s) should the banner appear on? Just the home page?

    3. Are users allowed to dismiss the banner or does it always appear?

    4. Do we want to say anything about the current CEDARS URL forwarding to the new URL?

    5. Do want to warn users about site down time for the cut-over starting at 8pm on Nov 1?

Last, the banner content is more vague than I would expect and I wonder if being more specific might be better received by users? Instead of:

Please Note: CEDARS is moving to the CPUC domain in November 2024

Perhaps we could say something more like:

Please Note: Starting on Monday November 4, 2024 the CEDARS website will be found at cedars.cpuc.ca.gov

@Jennifer Scheuerell My answers below. In general, I would lean towards previous displays of information:

    1. Orange

    2. Just homepage

    3. I would allow for the message to be dismissed

    4. My thought is that we would hold off on specifically siting the current URL or the future URL, lest the future URL change at the last minute. I wouldn’t think that would happen, but just in case. I would also suggest that we would update the banner once the site officially cuts over to then inform users to of the new URL and to update their bookmarks, etc.

    5. I believe we should update the banner 2 weeks before the cutover with the down time information. Again, this allows us to be flexible should something change with the cutover date.

So my thoughts are the following:

    Banner to implement now:

Please Note: CEDARS is moving to the CPUC domain in November 2024.

Banner to read 2 weeks prior to cutover (needs to be approved by Amy):

Please Note: The CEDARS site will be down beginning 8pm PST, November 1.
Starting Monday November 4, 2024 the CEDARS website will be found at cedars.cpuc.ca.gov.

Banner post cutover (needs to be approved by Amy):

Please Note: CEDARS has moved to cedars.cpuc.ca.gov. Update any bookmarks, saved links, or references to our new website URL.

@sshkolnikov Is the copy for banner 2 approved? I have a ticket ready for this to be completed in Sprint 2

We will need to confirm the new copy for the banner. Particularly the name of the new domain.
Will update here asap when we have confirmation.

@sshkolnikov I’ve mocked up the first of these banners using the standard orange info colour. I found that it gets lost in the yellow background, so I have included another option to use cyan. Please advise if you and Amy have a preference.

@cedars team I have emailed Amy the two banner options for consideration. I will post her response here when received.
